Crafting homes for little souls.

One person, a feeding route, and years of showing up.

Rahma is the formalised version of work that has been happening on Mumbai's streets since 2019, founded by Sausan Bukhari.

Our vision

Compassion beyond people

Every city tells a story about the people who live in it. We believe that story is also written in how we care for the lives without a voice. Rahma exists to nurture a culture where compassion extends beyond people, bringing communities together to create lasting solutions for the animals that share our streets.

Our mission

From one life to thousands

Every act of kindness has the power to change one life. Our mission is to build the systems that can change thousands.

Our story

How we got here

  1. 2019

    Evening walks on Carter Road

Sausan Bukhari started feeding the community cats living along Carter Road in Bandra. No organisation, no funding - just a route walked most nights.

  2. Nov 2020

A single rescue sparked a mission

During the uncertainty of COVID-19, Sausan and her son Aimann rescued Frank from Carter Road, and Marcy soon followed him home. Two individual cats turned feeding into rescue work - vets, recovery, finding the right homes - and made the scale of the need around them impossible to unsee.

  3. 2022

    Building a grassroots movement

Daily feeding grew into TNR drives and support for local feeders. CM of Carter Road launched to bring residents, rescuers, NGOs and volunteers into one collaborative network for rescue, rehabilitation and responsible animal care.

  4. Since then

    Scaling the mission

Rescue takes collaboration. Working with NGOs, veterinarians and local rescuers, we coordinate medical care, surgeries, foster placements and adoptions - 5,000+ sterilisations facilitated, 500+ cats rehomed and 1,000+ cats supported across Mumbai and beyond.

  5. Today

    Project Rahma

We partnered with YODA to build a dedicated cattery inside their Malad shelter - a safe space for rescued cats to recover, and the foundation of a model for feline welfare that can be repeated elsewhere in the city.

Partners

We don't do this alone

Almost everything we do happens alongside shelters, clinics and rescuers.

  • YODA - Youth Organization in Defence of Animals

The Rahma Cattery was built in collaboration with YODA at their Malad shelter.

  • Save Our Strays

Rescue coordination and adoption support across Mumbai.

  • Small Animal Clinic

Veterinary partner for neutering, vaccination and emergency care.

“Rahma has been a steady, hands-on partner for us. Sausan doesn't just raise awareness - she shows up, funds the difficult cases, and built a cattery at our Malad shelter for the cats nobody else was going to take.”
